Review of Buffalo '66 (1998) by Natalie Z — 27 Mar 2008
Pretty awesome stuff. Vincent Gallo plays a pitiful man-child with a lot of neurosis to deal with. The story is being told through Billy Brown's memories, and as a result there's a really surrealistic feel to the whole film.
The colours are saturated, Christina Ricci's character is ridiculously sweet and innocent looking, his parents are ridiculously mean and the whole thing is delightfully over the top. Throughout the movie Gallo's character is absolutely pathetic and annoying, but by the end you sympathize with him so much and it ends up being a really sweet little love story.
