Review of Buffalo '66 (1998) by Gem J — 08 Apr 2009
If ever there was a film where every shot, every look, every silence was drenched in purpose then Buffalo 66 would be it.
It's easy to see why it became such a cult classic very quickly - not only are the main characters peculiar looking, yet oddly pleasing on the eye, but their neuroses (although exaggerated) are universal; with themes touching on confusion, social anxiety, familial disharmony, anger and redemption.
The beautiful cinematography alongside the strange pace of the film has an almost stifling effect, which traps the viewer fairly early on and forces the audience to engage with Billy's tortured antiheroism.
Without spoiling the ending...I left this movie desperately wanting more and this teasing element adds to it's potency. Definitely worth watching.
