Review of Buffalo '66 (1998) by Peter F — 13 Feb 2012
Writer/director/star Vincent Gallo's inspirations are readily apparent in Buffalo '66. John Cassavetes, David Lynch, and the Coen brothers all seem to be mined for influence here, which admittedly lends the film a bit of a muddled identity and subtext.
Still, the often incredible camera work, stylish editing, and stand out performances from Ricci and Gallo make for a compulsively watchable film. It's more an interesting little indie than a true masterpiece, but it's well worth revisiting now, a decade after it's release.
