Review of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) by Craig D — 30 Oct 2009
An absolute gem- good spooky fun and horror icons abound. This ranks among the comic duo's finest works because the humor is spread evenly between the two goof-balls and the story gets a strong boost from Universal classics past.
Every joke is exquisitely timed and executed, and a lot of the great radio gags are transferred to the screen with pleasing results. Even without the comedy the film is a fresh re-imagining of the monster movie, borrowing all the cues and devices that had proven successful previously.
The guest cat features Lugosi, Chaney Jr. and an extra special appearance from an equally charming horror movie star.
