Review of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) by Matt P — 15 Oct 2010
Out of all the Abbott and Costello comedies, this one takes the cake. Hands down. Along with Meet the Invisible man, Killer Boris Karloff, and One Night in the Tropics, Meet Frankenstein does probably the best job at balancing out their comedic style with humorous and down right ridiculous events.
Though the story is stretched and ends with some unanswered questions like, "How is the Wolf Man alive anyway?" Or, "Why does Count Dracula want the Frankenstein monster to begin with?" But hey, like any other of their movies, you just got to let it slide.
Sometimes in Abbott and Costello movies, their humor tends to drag and become formulaic. It all gets predictable and "old." When you put two opposites up against a team of classic monsters, your sure to get a good laugh.
The story was fun and exciting, I loved the reactions of Costello when he sees the monsters. And the climax was thrilling unlike any other of their movies. Meet Frankenstein is a film I've loved as a kid for the longest time and still cherish as a favorite.
If your looking for a good solid laugh and cult-classic monster movie, check this one out. It never fails to leave me without a good laugh or feeling nostalgic.
