I've never had much interest in horses but the trailer for Buck looked very good (and after seeing it 10K times I might as well have watched it).
Buck is your standard Americana movie. It's about the spaces, the views and the everyman character that has some marvelous qualities that spring from a lifetime of pain.
The film is only incidentally about horses. While the footage with the animals is pretty magnificent the real story is about the humanity and perspective in life one chooses.
Buck is not a preachy documentary and it's certainly not full of morality. It's really about a man that has a choice about how to run his life fully and wholesomely. In the process, he helps others by means of horses.
The documentary is wonderfully shot and is pleasant beginning to end. It's not too long and does not have the obligatory gasping or shocking scenes. There is however one pretty tragic story but it's really well managed.
Definitely a very strong doc and a good use of 90 minutes on a Sunday night.
