Review of Bubble Boy (2001) by Ben C — 11 Nov 2013
Jake Gyllenhaal is born without an immune system. So his super conservative mom played by Swoosie Kurtz keeps him in a literal bubble and home schools him in her religious ways. Eventually Mary Shelton moves next door and he is interested in her and they begin hanging out with him Mom clearly frowning the 'whore from next door'. Eventually she gets engaged, but wants to be with Jake but he's hurt from her until he realizes the error of his ways. He sets off in his own custom bubble to reach her in time. Along the way, he meets Danny Trejo who tells him to follow his heart and other offbeat characters like a cult and a side show.
A pretty good comedy. It's dumb, but it works in that way. Doesn't preach anything either, which is good considering all the religious stuff. Overall, pretty good.
