I would guess that this is the one film which Jake Gyllenhall regrets. I can imagine that, on paper, it looked like his type of film where he can play a sad boy with a unique disease with some funny bits in it however, it was made to be a shallow goofball comedy with a typical hollywood story.
Thankfully, he survived this.
