Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Luke S — 10 May 2009
What a movie! Now we know the true story behind Elvis Presley's "death", and let me tell you it's a lot more exciting than him kicking it on the crapper eating a sandwich! From the previews I struggled to really see what this movie was all about, so I was kind of surprised at what it turned out to be.
Surprised and impressed! And who better to portray an aging, hip-replacement Elvis stuck in a nursing home trying to destroy a rogue, soul-sucking Mummy than Bruce Campbell? Nooooobody! This thing was bizarre (and hilarious) right from the get-go, and the effects were that funny, rudimentary style that works so well in these independent type films.
The constant references to the growth on the end of Elvis' pecker had me in stitches the entire time! I can't really explain this movie, you have to see it to believe it. It is definitely an hour and a half well invested.
