Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by James R — 29 Jun 2009
Very creative characters with a blend of campy humor, scary monsters, toilet humor and contemplation of age, yet falls a bit flat trying to mesh them all together on screen. I wish that the story development matched together better, it seems to me like the story was conceptualized by throwing darts at a board of old celebrities and classic monsters, then plot lines were chosen in a similar manner.
There was some attempt at rationalizing the way that the mummy steals souls, but the rest seemed contrived. The mixing of Elvis and JFK could have been a lot more meaningful if we had more exchanges like when they talk about Marilyn Monroe, even if we are lead to believe that JFK is a fake.
