Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Matt S — 08 Jan 2011
I *really* wanted to like this. Unfortunately it's set in a rest home, and paced like it's, well, in a rest home. Everything happens at half speed. It's nowhere near as over the top as Evil Dead, which is why I watch those movies again and again.
The characterisation and plot and writing are all pedestrian. It's a Bruce Campbell movie, with all the low budget effects, toilet humour (literally!), and types of humour you expect, but just doesn't have any spark to it.
A real shame.
