Review of Bryan Loves You (2008) by Jason D — 22 Sep 2008
My goodness, what a horrible movie! I was eagerly awaiting this for for....hmm...um...FOREVER!!! It finally came out today, couldn't buy it, so I settled for a renter. BEST SAVE OF MY LIFE because this film was a huge letdown.
The story revolves around obtained (think Blair Witch) footage of a young therapist who (along with his friends) start to notice a small takeover of their town by cult extremists who worship someone named Bryan.
I give it two stars because there were a couple of effective scares within this film, as well as the barrage of cult icons that pop up within the film including Tony Todd (Candyman), George Wendt (Cheers), Tiffany Shepis (hot as shit), Brinke Stevens (80's Scream Queen), and Lloyd Kaufman (founder of Troma).
Unfortunately, it is very apparent that creator/director/writer/lead actor Seth Landau spent ALL of the budget on getting these people to walk in front of the camera rather than investing in the film.
The guy is very creative and can offer a lot to the horror film business, but he really needs to mold his craft, and NOT act, because his bland, monotone-voiced, acting just about made me want to tear my head off!!!
