Review of Brüno (2009) by Bill M — 30 Apr 2012

Bruno is bolder, ballsier (literally) and more shocking than Borat, whilst it doesnt have a set piece as chaotically funny as the naked fight from that film, it's just a better film overall, it's even more gleefully offensive and almost nihilistic in it's distain for good taste or moral barriers, in fact the joy of this evil little film is seeing just how shockingly far it is willing to go, from putting a black baby on a crucifix, staging a wet, erotic gay makeout at a wrestling match in front of thousands of angry, backwards homophobic rednecks and even at one stunning point, insulting a known terrorist in his gaff.

This is far more daring and outrageous stunt work from the fearless, and possibly insane cohen, more uneven than Borat, but just far more freewheelingly untamed, nasty, vicious and utterly willing to "go there", it's far more off the leash, mean and audaciuos than that film.

And it has (judging by how many people unreasonably hate it or were dissapointed by it) shown just how many of us (some of my friends included) are not as comfortable in their own sexuality as they would like to think, and it's a big triumphant, hugely entertaining fuck you! to rampantly homophobic America.
