Review of Brüno (2009) by Joe M — 23 Oct 2012
My guess is you would probably see less penis watching a gay porn, luckily there are even more laughs. Sacha Baron Cohen strikes again & hits comedic gold a number of times, & like Borat he finds, not surprisingly, most of it in the southern United States.
However Bruno is unable to match Borat overall, in part I imagine because it's now much harder for Cohen to trick people into believing his character, but even more because Bruno is nothing more then a stereotype pushed to its limits.
One of things that made Borat great was that despite all of the crazy things he did or said he still came off as a believable human being, he had both positive & negative qualities, & this allowed for us to share in his success & failures.
Bruno is an arrogant jerk with no redeemable qualities & thus we have no rooting interest. The laughs are still there, but the heart isn't.
