Review of Bruiser (2000) by Jason D — 02 May 2008
I never thought this was a bad film, but you could definetly tell that Romero was in a rut, and probably still hurting from totally getting screwed over with getting bumped from the director's seat of the eventual Resident Evil films. Damn you, Paul Anderson, DAMN YOUUUUU!!!!
Anyways, Bruiser ( a subtle take on Kafka's Metamorphosis story) is about a man (the underrated Jason Flemyng in a terrific role for him) who gets pushed around and humiliated by the people in his life until waking up one morning to find his face gone and replaced with a unidentifiable shape mask. Using this to his advantage, our lead goes about killing his tormentors. Pretty decent movie on its own, but once you realize it was done by Romero, you feel bad.
