Review of Bruce Lee, My Brother (2010) by Joel L — 04 Dec 2010
I believe this film was created in rememberance of Bruce Lee's birthday (if he were to be alive this year, he would be 70 years old) and commemorate on his greatness. To me, Bruce Lee is one of a kind, a hard working, a true believer - to show the world not his personal greatness and fame, but the true spirit of the Chinese people - showing us how much potential strength we *Chinese* if we come together as a whole in unity. All of his martial arts philosophies transcends to the Chinese culture and the Chinese people as a whole... sometimes even to an extent making me proud of being Chinese. Back to the movie...
The acting and casting is absolutely amazing. Many of the character portrayals of previous Hong Kongese drama greats during the Golden Theatre era of 30s-50s were well represented (Leung Sing Boh, Ng Chor Fan, Fung BoBo etc). The camerawork was also mostly very stunning (but the direct shooting into the sun was kind of overdone in some parts). The CG of Old Hong Kong was great giving us a glimpse of the simple, authentic past. Kudos to Aarif Lee for becoming the man himself... a very if not one of the most difficult roles to fill, MC Jin, Christy Chung and MC Jin also had great performances!
Yet another film that I am pleasantly surprized to see. Recommended!
