Review of Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000) by Amanda X — 17 Jan 2006
This was an interesting documentary about the life of Bruce Lee, a figure that I have looked up to all of my life because my dad loved Bruce Lee movies and even today, his movies are amazing when it comes to realistic fighting and whatnot. I didn't know the struggles that he faced, and this documentary touches that subject along with his opinion of martial arts and the "forgotten" footage from his last movie, The Game of Death.
Hearing his philosophy of how water is the form that kung fu folks try to be most like is very deep and well, sensible. I didn't realize how educated Bruce Lee actually was. He could clip your head off with his degree in philosophy just as quick as a kick. The way he approaches Jeet Kun Do is also very interesting, his notation that karate is just crap because it doesn't truly teach you how to fight against anything but setup conditions is intriguing because fighting is random, and he believed that you should train to be prepared for random, chaotic fights.
His physical condition was amazing and his overcoming of the back injury was very inspiring. I can see why so many people look up to him. Brice Lee is truly legendary. Great documentary.
