Review of Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) by Tyler H — 29 Jun 2008
"Brotherhood of the Wolf" may not be exactly what it WANTS to be. What it wants to be is stuffed with intrigue of all varieties: political, sexual, religious, philosophical, racial, etc...and doesn't have quite the brains to juggle all those balls at once.
However, if you can forgive a case of large eyes/small stomach than you'll find yourself enjoying an emotive, sensual, and thrilling experience. It's part horror, part kung-fu, part monster, with some naturalist musings, eroticism, and incest thrown in for good measure (it's French, after all.
) It's the conversely gorgeous and horrifying visuals that make the whole biscuit easy to stomach and even - at parts - genuinely riveting. Recommended for those with the ability to put some things on the shelf and enjoy the ride.
