Review of Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) by Owen P — 06 Dec 2008

This is without a doubt one of the strangest movies I have ever seen. It's a (French) period drama/mystery with elements of horror and martial arts action, and even a nice little love story.

Strangely enough, however, 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' does not at all suffer from its inability to be categorized. The plot is interesting, intriguing, and best of all, believable. The acting is good, although hurt somewhat by a very dumbed-down subtitle translation. Also, apart from some weak CGI, the film is gorgeous to look at--costumes, sets, and cinematography are all top-notch.

Definitely give it a look if you like action movies or French movies or elaborate period pieces--if nothing else, you will be entertained.
