Review of Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) by Pavel R — 23 Apr 2009
This is weird film. F.e. fights scenes are pretty good, details, slow motions, fast cutting and perfect camera can hide a fact, that kung-fu and 17th century France is ridiculous. This French attempt for mixing hollywood blockbuster with a bit of mythology reminding chinese epic movies full of mystery and kung fu masters, is not so bad at all, but: gore, violence, nudity, fight scenes, romance?, humor?, absurdity, all that doesn't work well together.
So sometimes this film looks pretty serious, sometimes like mysterious thriller, sometimes like survival horror ala Predator, and sometimes as absurd variation on de Sade from Quills. So, some parts deserve 5*, some half, the same with actors.
In final ... 3*.
