Review of Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) by Scott M — 06 Aug 2009
Nothing bothers me more than a film with a supposed epic scale looking cheap, and this film is exactly that. Unfortunately I got stuck with a dubbed version which is always going to make the acting seem worse, so I won't say anything about the performances being crappy (which they may very well have been but they seemed terrible with the dubbing. Not sure I've ever seen a good dubbed performance though).
The creature effects are obviously terrible (2001 and on a low budget, CG isn't going to look good). The story itself reminds me far too much of Beowulf. None of the characters are even remotely interesting.
I wanted to see this movie because I remember seeing stuff from it when it came out and thinking it looked really moody and like it had great imagery. I can't say that either of those expectations were met, or even came close.
