Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Kim S — 18 Nov 2010
A decidedly poor photo copy (Xerox being too strong a word) of the far superior Disney effort THE LION KING. Not only is the animation on par for a low-end weekday afternoon toon, the film is boooooooring. Don't get me wrong, lots of "stuff" happens but with the exception of one sequence it seems as if the animators took this as a paycheck-only gig and this shows through. The only ounce of creativity comes from teaming legends Phil Collins and Tina Turner for the one soundtrack stand-out, "Great Spirits" (used in a scene that would have been better if they just plain spliced in the "pride rock" sequence from THE LION KING rather than use the poor carbon-copy that they went with instead).
