Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Wesley F — 05 Sep 2009
Brother Bear was an interesting Disney movie, but I?m honestly not into this type of stuff. The artwork is however amazing though, I heard this was the last hand drawn movie made by Disney and the computer graphic stuff just can?t beat good old hand drawn.
I?m not really sure if his hatred of bears in the beginning is justified, he has to fight with other humans and animals as well for food. Plus it?s a wild Animal, I wouldn?t blame it for ruining a get together when it sees a group of humans.
Anyway, I kind of felt for the Kenai when his brother was killed battling the bear and sought revenge on the bear. Though, in his situation I guess it wouldn?t have been the best thing to do based on the teachings of his tribe to live together with animals, even though Sitka pretty much did the same thing trying to get revenge for Kenai even though he was the bear.
His brother turning him into a bear after killing Koda?s mom is just kind of uncool though, I guess it show?s that he?s discaplined and respects his tribe?s teachings to punish his own brother who thought he was seeking justice for the death of his brother.
I wonder if this would have happened anyway if he didn?t kill the bear, so he could do the calling of his totem. I also wonder if Sitka would have been changed if he managed to kill Kenai. I?m surprised Koda didn?t react violently when Kenai told him that he killed his mother and actually forgave him and tried to help him, I guess his totems meaning for the bears was true.
I guess if he didn?t though he wouldn?t have tried to protect Koda and Denahi wouldn?t have changed him back into a person. I guess it?s cool that he decided to stay a bear so he could help and talk to Koda, though I would?ve made a different choice? I think this would relate to World Religion in terms of the Native American?s spirituality.
They believe in some kind of greater spirit that resides in animals it seems. Also their funeral and ceremonies seem a bit Religious as well.
