Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Niti P — 16 Apr 2010
Brother Bear is a fun and informative movie; I watched this movie because I had to do a movie review for my religion class. I am glad I watched this movie because it gave me an insight about the ways of indigenous religion. There were many things I learned from this movie, the foremost being that one has to respect nature. Humans and Mother Nature are interrelated; the well-being of one depends on the other.
Kenai, the main character in this movie is out to kill the bear that kills his older brother and is transformed into a bear by the spirits instead. In this movie, Kenai sees the world through the eyes of a bear and becomes like a big brother to Kodda, a bear cub whose mother Kenai kills in order to avenge his brother's death. Kenai learns to love Kodda, and is able to leave his bitter feelings behind him. The young boy gets to see why the bear killed his beloved brother, and how he indirectly was responsible for this. He owns up his responsibility and opts to remain as a bear even when he is given an opportunity to revert to human being. Kenai decides to remain a big brother and protect Kodda for his entire life.
The movie gives a good insight about the ways of Indigenous people. The movie very efficiently portrays a definite relationship between humans and nature. Though the movie one learns that humans should take care of nature, and in order for humans to survive, one should take care of nature and its resources.
