Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Ken S — 06 Dec 2011
The youngest of three brothers is about to receive his "totem" which his handed down to the people of his tribe from their gods. He is excited, but is quickly disappointed when he receives the totem of love, which is a bear.
Already unhappy with what he got, he is even more upset when a bear steals a basket full of food. He gets into a scrape with that very bear, and his oldest brother gives his life to save the two siblings.
So going for revenge, the youngest brother goes off and kills the bear, but the gods force him to learn his lesson of love and how his revenge was mistaken by turning him into a bear and learning to love bears and avoid being hunted by his own brother.
It is a decent enough concept, and it is entertaining enough. Also having Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as two bears clearly based on their Bob & Doug characters is a fun choice. The movie is a decent Disney effort, even if it is sort of forgettable in the long run.
