Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Logan S — 21 Apr 2012

Brother Bear is set right after the ice age era in the Americas. I guess you could say that the indigenous people in the film believed that all animals are the spirits and souls of their tribe. The Film is based on three brothers; Kenai, Denahi, and sitca that must return to their village so that Kenai may become higher in rank and become a real man. But instead Kenai, to his objection, get the symbolism of the bear(One that Loves). Kenai Seeâ(TM)s bears as thieves and when is point in proves after seeing a bear steal the tribes food, Kenai Chases after the bear to kill it. When one of the brothers gives his life to in order to save Kenai, Kenai kills the bear in revenge. When the bear is killed, a sort of aurora lifts Kenai in the air and he comes down to find that he his spirit has been transformed into the bear he killed. When the third brother came running around the mountain, he saw Kenaiâ(TM)s body assuming him dead and the bear still there he vows to kill the bear, not knowing the bear is actually Kenai. Kenai escapes and is in the wild on his own. As he makes his journey through the forest, he realized that all the animals can talk and meets two moose brothers that pop up in the movie several times and give comic relief. Kenai also meets a cub bear whoâ(TM)s is on his own because his mother was killed(Kenai killed the cubs mother but does not realize it until later). Kenai and the cub journey to get Kenai back to his tribe but things come to a stop when the cub finds out that Kenai killed his mother. After the moose talk to Kenai and the cub and make them realize their relationship, the two finally return to the village. Kenai gets turned back into the human he once was, the cub shortly gets to see is mother. Kenai, regretting being turned back into a human, asks the spirit lady if he can be turned back into a bear. He is turned back into a bear and him and the cub are happy ever after and live life in the bear pack. Kenai becomes a man, although he is bear form.

You can compare Brother Bear to world religions in the fact that indigenous people still believe that there are spirits in the animals on this earth. Theses cultures bond with these animals. They may hunt animals, but they do not disrespect the animals. There are cultures that believe there people are possibly reincarnated into the animals around them.
