Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Vanessa L — 16 Sep 2012
This movie is filled with a lot of spiritualism and symbolism that some may find to be objectionable. However one must realize that the faith or religion that they are aligned to is not the same as everyone else's.
And that movies like this one can give a person a different perspective on beliefs from a culture that they are not familiar with. It's a learning opportunity. In this particular movie is about an Indian tribe and its beliefs about how all things are interconnected.
That how we treat everyone and everything from humans to nature (plants and trees) and animals plays a part in our life. Not everyone's belief has to be of western or modern times. In fact there are many indigenous tribes all over the earth that believe that a certain mountain, lake, or piece of land is scared.
This movie is about an Indian tribe, and some of the brothers that are in this tribe. Kenai, who is a teenage boy, kills a bear because it ate the fish that he had caught (the bear wouldn't have eaten it if he had tied up the fish correctly in the first place).
Kenai's older brother died saving Kenai from a bear, and therefore Kenai decides to go and kill this bear for revenge. However, before he can accomplish this; he himself is transformed into a bear himself by the Great Spirits which includes his dead brother.
Kenai meets and pairs up with the cub of the bear that he killed. From then Kenai starts a great journey to become human again. But along the way he discovers the true nature of bears and understands that what he did was wrong not what the bear had done.
The music in this movie is great also, so for those who have and open mind and aren't afraid to shed a tear or two this is a good movie to watch.
