Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Lee H — 03 Apr 2017

Brother Bear is a wonderful movie that is great for all ages. This movie is about a Native American Tribe in the far North America where glacier end. This tribe has spirit healer and spirit animals where everyone get assigned a totem to represent their journey to become a man or a woman. The movie follows Kenai a young man that get assigned the totem of love and the item is a small wooden bear. He gets upset that his totem of love is not man enough or cool enough and is embarrassed. During this a bear steal the fish he had collected earlier with his brothers. He gets upset and goes on a man hunt for the bear to seek his revenge. During this process, he finds the bear and his two brothers catch up. His older brother Sitka that has a totem of wisdom ends up sacrificing himself to save Kenai and his other brother Denali. Kenai and Denahi get in an argument about what to do and whose fault it was. Kenai get annoyed and seeks revenge again on the bear. He tracks the bear down and kills it even thou its his spirit animal. After this he transform from there higher power into a bear to learn a lesson. He is told that he need to go where the lights meat the mountains or earth. This is reference to where the northern light or Aurora borealis is. During this travel, he meets a young bear Name Koda who teaches him compassion and love.

This movie shows a great example of indigenous religions. This one of the native American tribes and they easily overlook. They were many tribes that had similar and different beliefs. Most native American religion had a strong connection with nature they a lot of them had connection with a spirit animals. All their religions held animals to a standard higher than them.
