Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Eliyahu S — 23 Oct 2010
The only thing that saves this movie is the three male leads that play their parts convincingly. Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, and Don Cheadle make up Brooklynâ(TM)s finest police officers. Each actor shares about the equal amount of screen time and each has their own unique story line that predictably tries to tie in at the end of the film. The mood of the film is very dark and it shows the reality of drugs, prostitution, and street violence.
The actors are great despite their characters being clichà (C)d. Cheadle plays the undercover cop whose vision of right and wrong has become blurred. Hawke plays a desperate Narcotics officer that is tempted by the money around him for the sake of his family. Lastly Gear plays the jaded burned out officer that is just one week away from retirement.
Director Antoine Figuar is attracted to cops and robbers as weâ(TM)ve seen with past films Harsh Times, Training Day, and Street Kings. He does a good enough job here, but thereâ(TM)s just way too many plot holes within in the story. The characters are the most interesting part of the film, but the story is too boring for us to really jump along with it. It tries too hard to be gritty and raw. 6/10 from me.
