Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Brad D — 14 Jun 2011
Let's be honest this is a bit of a car crash of a movie but do you know what, I did kind of enjoy it on a guilty pleasure level. Don Cheadle as an undercover cop? Hilarious, he'd be shot quicker than you could say 'what the hell was that cockney accent in Oceans Eleven all about?'.
Then we have Richard Gere as the grizzly cop...no seriously, Richard Gere doing grizzly. Finally we have Ethan Hawke who let's be honest has all of his best films behind him. To try and give the film some added gravitas they've drafted in half the cast from 'The Wire' which just kind of makes you think I wish I was watching that instead.
But, as I said at the top, for all of it's many, many flaws I did enjoy it as a bog-standard NYC cop film. Shame is, it really thinks that it's so much more than that.
