Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Will T — 01 Nov 2011
Absolutely a great film. If you love Don Cheadle the fifth Beatle, Wesley Snipes, Ethan Hawke and would like to see Richard Gere play a gritty role again... Check out this film about NY cops feeling at the end of their ropes and maybe making some bad choices or .
... good ones. Antoine Fuqua director of Training Day is super focused with an awesome script. Look, we don't have Robert Mitchum, Marlon Brando or James Dean but the cast I mentioned above is about the best we have now on screen.
Ignore the critics on this one and just see it. Ethan Hawke might be one of our finest actors and the scene in the confessional should have bumped him into oscar contention. Also, Cheadle brings an intensity and heart to a role that most actors would find hard to nail down.
Everything about this film is great and if you missed it in the theaters then check it out. One day I hope Antoine will be mentioned in the same breath along with Tarantino... until then I'll see anything he makes because I think he's really great.
He's not the only hope for Hollywood but he's a shining star in a dark night of remakes nepotism unoriginality and tweeny douchy titilation that sucks loud and strong like a sexy stupid teenage vampire.
Also, this is the final movie from Wesley Snipes before his encarceration on withholding taxes. He needs to get out of there and back to work and his life. I think he's great, he just needs a nice Jewish accountant and some friends who will urge him to file early.
Let's hope he's out soon, maybe he can play Luke Cage: Powerman? That would be cool. I loved this movie so much I watched it twice - two nights in a row. It is that good.
