Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Marc L — 20 Apr 2012
Shouldn't this movie be in quotes like, Brooklyn's Finest "My Ass!" So you have several people in this film who have been in other cop movies or gangster movies and you got the director from most of those movies as well. Okay, I will give Antoine Fuqua credit for directing Training Day, but I was kind of expecting Denzel Washington to pop up any minute spouting off his lines.
Even though this movie is written really well, I just kind of geared that it's just there. You got Richard Gere reminding all of his acting from Internal Affairs, but you got him interacting with whores and trying to save them. Ethan Hawke is just talking through his teeth most of the time whenever he gets angry. Also, Wesley Snipes reminded all of us that he actually can act when he is not doing one of those piece of shit direct to DVD movies. Ellen Barkin comes in and is chewing up scenery and Metamucil, at the same time, but is also one of the weakest perfomances. It's a pessimistic film and it has no real hope at all. The movie is taking itself so seriously with that darkness. These cops don't really interact with each other that much, but there is a scene where they all run into each other at the end of the movie where it felt to much like a coincidence. I like the movie and I think it has some really strong perfomances. As much as it brings it all together, I felt that they pulled that element back just a little bit.
