Self-indulgent. I'm sure the writer's friends and family had a great time watching this quasi-autobiography. The problem with the movie, next to the generic (fictitious) mob violence, is that it starts right off with a self-congratulatory tone and assumes that you already like the main characters before you've even been introduced to them.
