Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Mengze L — 18 Jan 2016
I have not seen a film as good as this one in a long time. It just passed spotlight as my film of the year. It presents a picture of such different problems than one's I'll ever have, but it resonates so strongly even with me, I can't imagine how strongly it would resonate with a pretty girl who ever had to choose between two really amazing gentlemen to spend their life with, or anyone who ever knew someone could be the love of their life, but that person was unavailable, or they had an obligation to live a different life instead.
It also prompts one to better understand the types of more general troubles that people in the modern first world are simply unlikely to ever face. This movie was really just amazing, and also so frustrating and stressful and rich and sad.
Perfect for an idealist seeped in melancholy like me who never expects that things will work out, but also never ever loses hope that they could.
