Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Derek B — 11 Feb 2016
Brooklyn appears on the surface to be a film that most men would find deadly dull. Throughout its almost two hour span there is just one swear word, for which an immediate apology is offered, one fumbling sex scene, played out in a dimly lit basement flat where neither party appears to shed too many clothes, not a single punch is thrown in anger and what cars there are move at a snail's pace.
Yet this simple tale of an Irish girl in the 1950s, finding her home in Brooklyn New York before tragedy leaves her with an almost impossible dilemma, never bores even the most red-blooded male. Good story-telling, beautifully acted and superbly filmed will always succeed to any audience and this meets that criteria.
A definite five stars and highly recommended.
