A low-key, sincere period drama driven by Saoirse Ronan's expressively sublime lead performance. This has a fairly well-executed love story that feels charmed and authentic. But that is honestly NOT the main plot device here, this is a story more about a Irish girl's rise to womanhood through her journey to live in 1950s Brooklyn, America.
If you look at it like that, it is a more endearing, satisfying picture.
