Honestly the only thing this movie has going for it is that it's a pretty looking film. I hated this movie. I am so confused, I don't know what I'm missing. I didn't read it as a story about home sickness as much as it was about a girl who never makes her own decisions. Her sister chose for her to go to America. The priest found her a home, a job, and enrolled her in school. She has to go to the dance because of the new "ugly, and annoying" girl, she married the dude because he wanted it, she only went back to America because someone discovered her secret.

I don't know what I'm missing. I'm an immigrant. I know what it's like to miss home. But watching this movie all I got was a movie that hated women and was about a white immigrant who faced no real challenges.
