Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Dragonsfoe . — 02 May 2016
Life of an Immigrant.
Brooklyn is a charming, well-acted, and overall delightful film about a girl and her troubles and achievements when moving to America.
Saoirse Ronan proves in this film that she is a fantastic lead actress. She portrays her character with what seems to be genuine emotion, and is great at conveying the senses of a woman who experiencing what her character is experiencing. She is very likeable and so is Emory Cohen, both of which should gain more recognition in the years to come. Gleeson also does a great job becoming one of the biggest breakouts of 2015, right next to Alicia Vikander in doing great thing this year. Though cliche, the love triangle is filled off by great acting and a believable and charming screenplay.
As earlier stated, the love triangle element is quite predictable, and the outcome could be telegraphed from a mile away.
Overall Brooklyn is a very satisfying film, led by a very likeable rising actress, the film will resonate to anyone trying to let go of the past and move on.
Rating: 7.9 (B+).
