Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Anthony K — 15 Aug 2016

Brooklyn and Carol are about as similar as two movies can be while still having completely different stories (including a scene where the protagonist struggles at her New York department store job). That said, Brooklyn surpasses Carol in almost every respect.

It's charming, funny, beautifully shot and never gets bogged down in its own perceived self-importance. It's not a runaway success as Eilis' character development occurs suddenly and as the result of getting her hand caught in the cookie jar so to speak.

For the most part though, it tells a small, relateable coming-of-age story about finding one's place in the world well. 7.7/10.
