Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Alexander M — 30 Jan 2016
Rating: Fascinating.
Brooklyn is a charming tale of a woman trying to move away from her past life, and then interweaves wonderfully with romance. The film is full of great performances but the star Saoirse (pronounced like Cersei from Game of Thrones) Ronan shines throughout. Also I did not know my boy Domnhall Gleeson was in this movie, I always have to shout him out.
What makes this movie stick out to me as great is that the story is engaging and believable. I felt like a real world situation was playing out at every step. This includes some surprising yet genuine humor, and other times that tears were welling up. If there was anything to nitpick here it is the slightly lengthy third act, but that is quickly dismissed with a strong ending.
If you are looking a quality period romance, or if any part of that sounds interesting, Brooklyn should be seen by your eyes soon.
