Personally I found it to be one of the best love stories I have ever seen. Love stories I think are personal--what works with me might not work with you. This worked with me. I thought (lack of academy nominations or not) that it had noteworthy direction.
The scenes of people's faces. The beauty of Ireland. The scene of crowded Jones Beach and the empty ocean of Ireland as a literal and metaphoric difference of the two countries.
