Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Eric A — 13 Feb 2016
A romanticized view of a young girl's journey to America from Ireland with all the trappings found in a beautiful Valentine. Yet this film cuts to the core. You are not certain of our heroine's future.
..for she is torn between family back at home and the possibilities of her future. Saoirse Ronan plays the role beautifully and she keeps the balance within her character's heart which creates the suspense within the piece.
The cinematography is gorgeous and shows off both Brooklyn and Ireland to advantage. It still is a small picture and focuses more on the characters than the necessity for excess. The role of the love interest is charmingly played by Emory Cohen.
Julie Walters is also funny as the boarding house landlady. All in all a film that cuts through all the cynicism of today and makes you yearn for your desires and dreams to come true.
