Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Jillian L — 21 Feb 2016
The trailer for this movie gave off a Nicholas Sparks vibe, so I was really doubtful going in. After watching this, the marketing team of this movie needs to fire whoever made that trailer. Yes, this was a romance, but there was nothing corny or cheesy about it.
This was a real, human story of a woman torn between two lives that she could lead. Yes, a simple plot line, but you can't ignore how elegantly this movie was made. Having Saoirse Ronan definitely didn't hurt either.
She was absolutely wonderful. Emory Cohen and Domnhall Gleeson are under appreciated for their performances. (Which seems to be a trend for Gleeson this awards season...) Overall, this is just a lovely movie.
It may or may not have re-awakened the hopeless romantic in me.
