Review of Bronson (2009) by Timothy S — 09 Aug 2012
Creates a bizarre atmosphere of vibrancy and over the top brutality while showing a man's struggle to find importance to his life in even the most miserable conditions. Tom Hardy gives an exceptional if extreme performance, showing moments of sadness, confusion, and pain beneath rage and mock cheerfulness.
While Hardy's Charles Bronson doesn't have a traditional arc, the film depicts his self-destructive cycles and lack of direction in a fairly engaging way. Unfortunately it doesn't really move past its focus on its own strangeness or explore the character in any more depth.
