Review of Bronson (2009) by Nik M — 07 Oct 2012
A British Film based on the true story of the U.K.'s most notorious prisoner, Michael Peterson, who changed his name to Charles Bronson (based on the actor of the same name). Spent 30 years in solitary confinement and was paroled only to be arrested again for robbery and sent back to prison after 69 days of freedom.
This film reminds me of A Clockwork Orange. Disturbing, brutal, funny and moments of defeat. I've heard about this film from word of mouth and the fact that Tom Hardy plays the lead, and it was this performance that convinced Christopher Nolan to cast him as Bane in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.
Hardy's performance is a taste of what you will see in Rises. He's physically built and has the mind of a savage animal looking to strike at anyone who is in the same room with him . Not to mention he's smart with what he is trying to accomplish.
These three characteristics make him a dangerous individual. It took me a while to warm up to the black comedy elements of the film, but it helped even the film out with its over the top bare knuckle brutality that Bronson is best known for.
This is a film you should watch if you're into character studies, true stories, or if you just like crazy rage filled violence.
