Review of Bronson (2009) by Matthew S — 23 May 2015
Although Nicolas Winding Refn's Bronson owes a great deal of its style to Stanley Kubrick, it still emerges as something completely unique. It also offers that rare opportunity to witness the emergence of a major actor come into his own rare intense charisma -- Tom Hardy actually gave the most impressive performance by any actor in 2009.
It's not just the camera that allows him to fill the screen. His performance is every bit as raw, angry, comical and tragic as the way Refn so skillfully presents Michael Peterson's infamous story.
It is a surreal and visceral experience that keeps the art of cinema relevant.
