Review of Bronson (2009) by Lovro H — 29 Nov 2015
Finally watched Bronson! Goddamnit, why did it take me so long... So, the movie follows the story of Michael Peterson (AKA Charles Bronson, after the actor) from his childhood to where he is now. It's a very interesting story to tell.
Also, being a biopic, it's suprisingly not boring! My past experience with biopics bears mixed feelings, with the exception of Theory of Everything, which was amazing. The best things about this movie are the cinematography and acting.
Tom Hardy is brilliant as Bronson! He's a very unpredictable and intriguing character that isn't very likeable, but there's something about him that just makes you like him. The director of the movie did an amazing job with this movie.
Every shot in the movie looks beautiful. I adore the look of the movie! It reminded of Kubrick's The Shining and a couple of other movies, like Mr. Nobody or Filth. I sometimes found myself pausing the movie and just staring at the screen.
The soundtrack is very diverse. There're a lot of electronic songs, but also some classic ones. Also, the sound editing in some scenes was brilliant. There's a scene where Bronson is fighting with two other people and the music is mixed in with the scene so that whenever somebody hits someone, you hear a 'pew' noise or when they miss, you hear a 'swoosh' sound.
It reminded a lot of Space Invaders and other similiar games. The movie's also very shocking at times. I won't spoil anything, but the ending shot was very breathtaking. If I had seen that shot somewhere online, without watching the movie, I would've thought it was from Silent Hill or something similiar to it.
All in all, an amazing movie with brilliant acting and just as (if not, even more) brilliant direction. I highly recommend checking this movie out!
