Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Zoe H — 09 Dec 2008
Bill Murray is on excellent deadpan form, but ultimately I found this unsatisfying. The whole thing has a dream-like quality. The interactions between the characters (except Winston's family) are awkward, almost surreal; Don's apparent lack of a motivation for bringing flowers to each encounter; How accepting Don is of his treatment at the hands of each ex's companions (especially Chloe Sevigny's character) by reacting in an almost zombie-like trance and the ending is quite abrupt as if being woken suddenly towards the end of a dream that's not quite finished.
An intriguing curio that I would struggle to recommend.
