Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Andrew Z — 06 May 2009
Yea its ok... to be honest I kind of had high expectations because of all the rave reviews i'd heard and because its Bill Murray and he's just awesome... as it turned out though it just ok/good.
.. The first half of the film I thought wasn't so hot... the plot devices used to get things swinging are contrived and jarring... Bill Murrays character gets a letter from an ex-lover saying he's a dad, ok fine, but then from the call from his friend to fix a computer thats sorted in a click, to his friend who happens to be looking at a who dunnit site becasue he looks to slove mysteries.
.. it all kind of felt like the director was saying 'look I have this great idea about a guy searchin out old flames to find out which one is the mother of his child so i'm just gonna push the things forward a bit so that we can get to it'.
.. The first two meeting he has too are with characters that seem uneedfully over the top and 2D... however the second part of the film settles down into a really watchable movie and the last half is awesome with an absolute perfect ending.
