Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Alex V — 09 May 2009
I have mixed feelings about Jim Jarmusch, I have decided. Sometimes I question his pacing, but he has a very distinct flavor in his films that more often than not hits the sweet spot of melancholy comedy.
This makes Bill Murray a perfect subject for his camera, with his droopy, travel-worn face and dry sarcasm. Broken Flowers has probably been the best time I have had with a Jarmusch film as of now, and like I said before, it's mostly due to the dramatic and comedic harmony he has with Murray.
Worth seeing for Jarmusch fans, but it doesn't quite cross the threshold into real populist territory. But who needs that nonsense, right?
